ANN ORRISON GERMAIN

Ann Orrison Germain’s path to the U.S. Women’s National Team was anything but conventional. With no women’s soccer program at the University of Virginia, she attended on a field hockey scholarship and also competed in lacrosse. Her athleticism and versatility earned her a spot on the 1985 inaugural USWNT.

“We didn’t play for money or fame — we played because we loved the game. And we still do,” says Germain, whose multi-sport background embodies the resourcefulness and dedication of the first generation of U.S. women’s soccer players.
