LORI Henry
Lori Henry was one of the most accomplished defenders of her era, known for her physical presence, leadership, and championship pedigree. She won three NCAA titles with the University of North Carolina, became a 1991 FIFA Women’s World Cup champion, and served as USWNT captain during her career.
Henry’s journey began with the original 1985 U.S. Women’s National Team, where she anchored the defense in its historic debut. A Shoreline, Washington native, she later became the first head women’s soccer coach at Ohio State University.
“She marked me. I hated playing against her. Meanest. Toughest. Player. It hurt to play against her. She’d punish you — and then grind you down,” said teammate Michelle Akers.
