NWSL Opens Player Registration for 2021 NWSL Draft
The National Women’s Soccer League today announced the opening of player registration for the rebranded 2021 NWSL Draft.
The 2021 NWSL Draft order was determined by the reverse order of standings after the preliminary stage of the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup, with the exceptions being Louisville taking the first selection as the league’s expansion team and Orlando slotting into the fourth spot as agreed by the board of governors.
The NWSL has also released the current draft order, which is available here.
OL Reign currently holds two picks in the 2021 NWSL Draft: the 8th pick in the 3rd round (28th overall) and the 8th pick in the 4th round (38th overall). The club moved its 2021 1st round pick (8th overall selection) in a draft day trade for the 9th overall selection in the 2020 NWSL Draft, which was used to select midfielder Kelcie Hedge. OL Reign also relinquished its 2nd round pick (18th overall) in a January 2020 trade with the Orlando Pride in return for midfielder Dani Weatherholt.
The 2021 NWSL Draft will stream live exclusively on the NWSL’s Twitch channel on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at 7pm EST.
