OL Reign Sign Defender Alana Cook

OL Reign announced today that it has signed defender Alana Cook to a short-term contract, on loan from Paris Saint-Germain. Per league and club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Worcester, Mass. native joins from PSG in the French top flight. Cook, who signed with PSG in January of 2019, made eight appearances with the club and helped PSG finish as runners-up in the 2018-19 Division 1 Féminine season. Cook has also appeared in five champions league matches for Paris Saint-Germain in the past two seasons.

“Alana is a player we’ve been following for many years. We are excited to have join the squad, if only on a short-term basis,” said OL Reign CEO Bill Predmore. “We very much appreciate PSG allowing Alana to join for the tournament in Utah. Alana will add both depth and quality to the squad, which will be critical given the short rest between matches in the preliminary stage of the NWSL Challenge Cup.”

Cook is with OL Reign in Missoula, Montana and will train with the club today.

Cook has served as a captain for both the U.S. Women’s National Team U17s and U23s. Eligible to represent England through her father, Bryan, Cook trained with the Lionesses last September, before making her debut with the U.S. WNT under new head coach Vlatko Andonovski in November.

Cook played in college at Stanford University, where she helped the Cardinal claim four straight Pac-12 titles and one national championship in 2017. Cook was a two-time All-Pac-12 First Team selection, being named a first team All-America selection as a senior and a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist as a junior. She was also honored as the Pac-12 Defender of the Year in 2018.

“I’m super excited to join OL Reign for this season and this tournament,” Cook said. “I think it’s going to be a great opportunity for myself to continue to develop and get better. I’m super excited to join such a great team environment and a great culture.”
