Bugg, Dahlien, Dickey and Meza Feature for USWNT in 5-0 Win Over Chile

The United States Women’s National Team closed out January camp with a friendly match against Chile. Just the fourth-ever meeting between the two sides, the Unites States added another win to their perfect record against the No. 47 ranked squad. With this victory, the USWNT has now won six consecutive matches since 2024, when the team won nine straight, including its Gold Medal Olympics run.

Goalkeeper Claudia Dickey and midfielder Sam Meza were included in the Starting XI for the match, as named by Head Coach Emma Hayes. For Dickey, the appearance marked her seventh cap and start for the Stars and Stripes, while Meza tallied her third cap and second start in her international career.

The United States started the match on the front foot and maintained control of the tempo for the entire first half of play. Just over 10 minutes into the match, as the U.S. worked to find the final connection needed to score a goal, a chaotic play in the box saw Meza nearly get a shot off, but the chance was thwarted and play continued on.

Croix Bethune opened the scoring in the 19th minute of the match, giving the United States the goal they needed to relax into the evening. Dickey had little work to do in the half, as she did not face a single shot. Jameese Joseph and Emily Sams added two more goals for the U.S. before halftime, sending them into the locker room up 3-0.

After the break, defender Jordyn Bugg subbed onto the field, bringing the total number of Reign players on the pitch to three. The action got started early in the second half, as Emma Sears added another goal for the United States just 28 seconds in.

In the 63rd minute, Meza’s shift ended while Maddie Dahlien’s started. Dahlien, who made her USWNT debut in the match against Paraguay on Saturday, once again occupied the left side of the field.

Trinity Rodman rounded out the scoring for the night in the 68th minute, but the United States continued to press Chile through the final whistle. Dahlien caused trouble down the flank, winning a corner and nearly teeing up a goal just a minute later, but the offside flag was up.

From her place in the backline, Bugg impressed. Her poise on the ball led to a perfectly weighted pass, directly in Rodman’s stride, once again breaking through Chile’s backline. In the dying minutes of the match, Dahlien’s skill was on full display. In addition to whipping a cross into the box for Claire Hutton to connect with, Dahlien’s dizzying footwork forced Chile’s defense to foul her in order to have a chance at slowing her down.

The match ended 5-0 in favor of the United States, marking the end of a successful January camp for the squad. Now, Reign FC’s five players will re-join the Reign and look ahead to the rest of preseason and beginning the 2026 NWSL season.

As announced last week, the USWNT is coming to Seattle on April 14 to take on Japan at Lumen Field!
