Five Reasons to Spend Mother’s Day with Reign FC

Seattle Reign FC returns home to Lumen Field this Sunday, May 10 to take on the Washington Spirit in the club’s Mother’s Day match, presented by Paula’s Choice Skincare. After an intense back-and-forth battle in Houston on Friday that resulted in a 0-0 draw, the Reign will be looking to return home on the front foot and get back into the win column to start off their two-match homestand.

The Spirit are always a fierce opponent, as the two sides have been going head-to-head since the league was founded. As the season progresses, the stakes of every match increase. Here are five reasons you can’t miss this match:

Celebrate Mother’s Day

This match marks Reign FC’s Mother’s Day Match, presented by Paula’s Choice Skincare. It’s a moment to celebrate all of the queens in your life, with a lot of fun activations off the field before locking in to cheer the Reign on to victory.

The concourse will feature a special Mother’s Day Experience presented by Paula’s Choice.  At this station, fans can build a custom blossom bouquet at our flower bar, create a heartfelt card at our Mother’s Day card-making station, receive a Paula’s Choice Cellular Youth Longevity Serum sample to treat her (or yourself!), capture the moment at our stunning flower-themed photo op and more! The World Cup Draws Nearer

It’s already been an undoutedly exciting year for soccer in the state of Washington, and there’s only more to come. From Seattle Sounders FC and the Reign visiting the east side of the state to use Spokane as a home away from home, to the United States Women’s National Team returning to Lumen Field for the first time in nearly a decade, the stage has been set for Seattle to play host to the biggest competition in the game – the 2026 Men’s FIFA World Cup.

As the NWSL season comes to a pause in June, there are just two chances left to see the Reign in Seattle before the month of July – and one of those opportunities is this Sunday. Watch some of the best players in the league clash on our own home field before the break.

May Matchday Magic

Forecasted to be sunny and 72 degrees, Sunday is shaping up to be a lovely day in Seattle and there’s no better time to enjoy soccer at Lumen Field. From the moment you walk in the gates, the vibes are high. A live DJ and food trucks make the North Plaza an optimal starting point before filtering over the east concourse, where there’s something fun for everyone. Show your Reign FC spirit with face paint and poster making before trying your hand variety of games and activities, with some fun prizes up for grabs.

The match will also feature new and exciting Reign FC merchandise that fans will not want to miss out on, in addition to the 2026 Surge Collection.

Tons of Talent

You want high level soccer? We’ve got high level soccer. From the Reign’s own roster, which features some of the most talented young players in the league, like Emeri Adames, Ainsley McCammon and Maddie Dahlien, to the Spirit’s attack that features international talent like Leicy Santos and Sofia Cantore, there is no shortage of stars ready to take the pitch. Their rosters may be built in very different ways, but that only makes the matchup between the Reign and Spirit more interesting.

Though they are foes on the pitch this week, the two teams have a number of players who routinely feature for the United States Women’s National Team together, headlined by Reign FC’s goalkeeper Claudia Dickey and the Spirit’s Trinity Rodman.

A Classic Matchup

The Reign and Spirit have a long and storied history that dates all the way back to the NWSL’s first season in 2013. Since then, the teams have gone head-to-head a total of 34 times, with the Reign claiming 14 wins, 12 losses and eight draws.

Though every match between Seattle and Washington brings the energy, there are a few high stakes meetings that stand out, including three NWSL semifinal meetings and an NWSL Challenge Cup semifinal meeting. The Reign beat the Spirit to advance to the finals in back-to-back seasons (2014, 2015) before narrowly falling in 2021. The following year, they met once again, this time in the Challenge Cup and remained in a 0-0 deadlock through the entire match. Forced to go to penalty kicks, the match produced a result that fans won’t soon forget, as the Reign fell 8-9 in a seemingly endless shootout.
