WHAT TO KNOW
LAST MEETING
This match marks the first-ever meeting between Seattle Reign FC and Boston Legacy FC. Boston joined the league ahead of the 2026 season as an expansion team, alongside Denver Summit FC.
SCOUTING BOSTON
After going winless for the first six matches of the season, Boston Legacy are on a five-match unbeaten streak, scoring nine total goals across those matches. Though they currently rank 14th amongst the 16-team NWSL, the gritty team has momentum in their favor as they approach the final stretch before the NWSL observes a month-long break in June.
Most recently, Boston earned a point on the road against Bay FC. The 42nd minute dealt Boston’s Bianca St-Georges a red card, forcing the team to play down a player for the entire second half. Despite that, Boston fought to remain in the game. Bay FC took the lead in the 51st minute, on a low shot from Dorian Bailey.
Boston answered back 10 minutes later, as Aïssata Traoré was fouled in the box, earning a penalty kick for the Legacy. Amanda Gutierres stepped up to the spot and placed a poised strike into the lower left corner of the goal to level the score and ultimately earn a point for Boston.
TWO ON THE ROAD
To close out the month of May, Seattle Reign FC enters a difficult road stretch that will see the team compete in back-to-back matches on the east coast. First, the team takes on Boston, an unfamiliar opponent, before going head-to-head with the Washington Spirit once again.
Boston has yet to keep a clean sheet this season, so the Reign’s offense will be looking to pose a strong threat, utilizing the variety of talent on the roster to break through their current goalscoring drought. Maddie Mercado and Brittany Ratcliffe lead the team in scoring this season, with two goals apiece, while Sofia Huerta and Nerilia Mondesir have tallied the most assists this season, also recording two each.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
There’s no denying that goals change games and in order to get back in the win column and claim a handful of important points before the break, the Reign will be looking to threaten offensively against Boston. Maddie Dahlien, Maddie Mercado and Nerilia Mondesir have all recorded five or more shots on target, hopefully posing a challenge to Casey Murphy in goal for Boston.
In the midfield, Sam Meza has provided consistency in the center of the pitch, aided by Angharad James-Turner last match. She took two shots – tied for the most of any Reign player in the match, and also made three important interceptions.
For Boston, Traoré has proven to be a threat as she continues to tear up the offensive third of the field. The first player from Mali to play in the NWSL, the pressure she applies on opposition defenses is invaluable to the Legacy. She has two goals and an assist to show for it. Similarly, Spanish midfielder Alba Caño has been excellent on both sides of the ball, adding two goals of her own to Boston’s tally.
