WHAT TO KNOW AHEAD OF THE MATCH

LAST MEETING

This match marks the 35th all-time meeting between the Reign and Spirit, making Washington the second-most common fixture in club history. Seattle leads the series with 14 wins, 12 losses and eight draws across all NWSL competitions.

The last time the two teams met was September 2025 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. The Reign fell 2-0, conceding a goal on either side of halftime, both to Trinity Rodman. The entire first half, the Reign weathered a storm of attacks from the Spirit, with the home side finding a breakthrough goal in the 33rd minute. The second half saw Seattle get into the attack more, nearly equalizing ten minutes in on a shot from Maddie Dahlien, but it was saved by the goalkeeper. Three minutes later, Sofia Huerta sent a volley toward goal, but the chance soared high.

The 81st minute saw Washington double their lead, solidifying their win in the final minutes of the match.

SCOUTING WASHINGTON

The Spirit are on a strong run in NWSL play, tallying four straight wins to boost the team to third place in the NWSL standings. The team has not recorded a loss since their first match of the season on March 13, going unbeaten in seven straight matches.

Their last match featured a total of six goals as they claimed a 4-2 win over the Orlando Pride. Forward Sofia Cantore was twice assisted by Trinity Rodman en route to scoring the fastest brace in NWSL history, adding goals in the second and sixth minutes. However, Orlando’s Barbra Banda was up to the challenge, adding two goals of her own before the first half was over to send the teams into the locker room with the score deadlocked. The Spirit claimed victory in the second half, as Claudia Martínez and Rodman added a goal each.

YOUNG PLAYERS LEAD THE CHARGE

In the club’s Friday matchup against the Houston Dash, Head Coach Laura Harvey fielded a lineup with an average age of just 24.7, which marked the youngest lineup of 2026 NWSL season for the Reign and the ninth-youngest regular season lineup in club history. As Reign FC progresses through the season, it’s clear that the young players on the roster are ready to step up and make an impact alongside the veteran leaders of the team.

The midfield and front line against Houston featured only players age 25 or under, as Ainsley McCammon, Sam Meza, Emeri Adames, Maddie Mercado, Maddie Dahlien and Mia Fishel started the match. These players, though young in age, bring a wealth of experience to the field and have been steadily developing chemistry throughout the season, leaving much to look forward to.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

For the Reign, Emeri Adames has been showing out up top as she continues to work her way into the lineup. On Friday, she created two chances in the attack, marking her third match this season with multiple chances created. She has recorded nine total chances created in her seven appearances this season – just two shy of the number of chances she tallied in her first 42 league appearances, and has one assist.

The Reign’s backline has been consistent all season, including Madison Curry, who has played every minute. She’s made the second-most tackles of any player on the team (12). She’s also taken three shots, two of which have been on target.

For Washington, five players were named to the NWSL Team of the Month for April – the most of any team in the league. Goalkeeper Sandy MacIver, defenders Esme Morgan and Tara Rudd, midfielder Leicy Santos and forward Trinity Rodman all made the list for their recent performances.
