Key Info Ahead of the Match:
1. LAST MEETING – Seattle and Orlando last met less than a week ago in their final regular-season match of 2025. The 20th match in the head-to-head series ended level at one goal apiece. The Pride got on the board first, taking the lead in the 76th minute as Lizbeth Ovalle played a cross to the back post, where Carson Pickett took one touch to control the ball before nailing a left-footed volley into the back of the net. The Reign found an equalizer just three minutes later as Madison Curry clipped a ball into the box to Jordyn Bugg, who quickly settled the ball before striking a shot to the near post.
The Reign have earned 7W-5L-8D record against the Pride in 20 meetings across all NWSL competitions, netting 31 total goals. Notably, the two clubs have only met in NWSL regular-season matches previously.
2. PLAYOFF PEDIGREE – This is the fourth time in NWSL history teams have met on the final day of the regular season and the first round of the playoffs, and the first since 2018.
The Reign enter this match on the back of a storied playoff history, qualifying for the postseason eight times in league history. Though the club missed the playoffs in 2024, they appeared in the 2023 NWSL Championship and clinched the NWSL Shield the season before, in 2022. To date, the Reign have played a total of 11 playoff matches and added 12 playoff goals.
The Pride are the reigning NWSL Champions, capturing the title after a dominant 2024 season. The playoff run saw the team score eight goals across three matches en route to becoming league champions. 2024 marked the club’s first NWSL Championship and first NWSL Shield. Prior to 2024, Orlando had qualified for the NWSL postseason just one time, in 2017. That playoff run saw the Pride lose 4-1 in the semifinal.
3. SEASON ON THE LINE – The Pride and Reign proved to be on level footing last Sunday, but this match means even more. The very definition of high stakes, the NWSL playoffs are single elimination matches. Each game carries the possibility of being eliminated from Championship contention or moving one step closer to claiming the league title. In these big moments, the Reign will rely on veteran players, like Lauren Barnes and Jess Fishlock, to the lead the team through their extended stay in Orlando.
4. PLAYERS TO WATCH – In Reign FC’s final regular-season match, Jordyn Bugg impressed, having a solid match defensively while also scoring the game-tying goal to earn the point that clinched the five-seed for Seattle. Bugg posted a 96.8% passing accuracy rate in the match – the highest of any Reign player. Fellow defender, Sofia Huerta, also put in a quality shift against Orlando, firing off five crosses in the match. She created two chances offensively, in addition to making a team a team-high six clearances.
For Orlando, Marta was active on and off the ball, sending several warning signs to the Reign throughout the match. She fired off three shots, testing Claudia Dickey twice. Carson Pickett, the lone Orlando goalscorer in the match also proved to be a valuable asset to the Pride, bringing her season-long goalscoring tally to three – the third best on the team. She scored less than 10 minutes after coming onto the field as a sub for Orlando. She has now played a part in three goals after coming off the bench this season.
