Seattle Reign FC closes out their east coast road trip this Saturday, May 30, against the Spirit in Washington, D.C. Coming off a win against Boston, the Reign will be looking to earn another three points as they head into a month-long break from play.

WHAT TO KNOW AHEAD OF THE MATCH

LAST MEETING

The Reign and Spirit met less than three weeks ago, on May 10 at Lumen Field in Seattle, Washington, where the Reign fell 1-0, despite spending a lot of time in the attacking third of the field. The match was decided by an 84th minute goal from Claudia Martínez.

Reign FC forward Emeri Adames hit her milestone 50th NWSL appearance when she subbed into the match in the 79th minute. She became the third-youngest player behind Olivia Moultrie and Kennedy Fuller in league history to reach this milestone.

The upcoming match against the Spirit marks the 36th all-time meeting between the Reign and Spirit. Seattle leads the series with 14 wins, 13 losses and eight draws across all NWSL competitions.

SCOUTING WASHINGTON

Currently, the Spirit are in fourth place in the NWSL standings, most recently forgoing an NWSL match over the weekend to play in the 2025-26 Concacaf W Champions Cup final against Club América Femenil. The high-scoring affair saw the Spirit fall 5-3, with Sofia Cantore adding the first goal for Washington and Rosemonde Kouassi netting back-to-back goals to close out the scoring for Washington.

In NWSL play, the Spirit most recently fell 2-1 to San Diego Wave FC, snapping a five-match win streak. The Wave scored the game-winning goal in the 89th minute, beating the clock to claim all three points in the match.

LAST MATCH UNTIL JULY

This Saturday’s match marks Reign FC’s final bit of action until July, as the league is enters a month-long hiatus in the month of June. The team will resume play on the road in North Carolina on July 4 before returning to Lumen Field on July 12 to take Portland Thorns FC.

Coming off a win against Boston Legacy FC, the Reign will be looking to carry that momentum all the way to the break. The squad snapped its five-match goalless drought with the victory over Boston and have now won all four matches in which they’ve found the net this season. In the regular season, the Reign are unbeaten in the last 11 matches in which they’ve scored dating back to last August (W7 D4).

PLAYERS TO WATCH

For the Reign, captain Sofia Huerta has played a prominent role in the team's success, showing up on and off the field as a leader. In addition to recording two assists this season, she scored her first goal of the year against Boston.

In the backline, Jordyn Bugg made her first start of 2026 against Boston after spending the Reign’s opening eight matches of the season recovering from an injury. The 19-year-old recorded a shot and managed a 94% passing accuracy in her 71-minute performance.

Washington has curated a strong attacking presence this season, with five players involved in at least three goals in all competitions across the month of May. Leicy Santos leads the pack with four contributions, while Cantore, Kouassi, Martínez and Rodman were all involved in three. This is the sixth time an NWSL team has had at least five players involved in three or more goals in a single month and the first in Spirit history.
