Reign FC Playoff History: By the Numbers

Seattle Reign FC ended the 2025 NWSL regular season in fifth place and will begin their postseason journey on Friday, November 7, in Orlando.

One of the most storied clubs in NWSL history, the Reign are very familiar with the postseason, having made seven playoff runs prior to this season – tied for the second-most in league history. As the team looks to rewrite the record books and claim their first-ever NWSL Championship, here’s a look at the Reign’s previous campaigns in the NWSL playoffs, by the numbers:

1 – The last time the club competed in the quarterfinal round came back in 2023, when the Reign hosted Angel City FC at Lumen Field. The tightly contested match was determined by one goal – an 87th minute game winner from Veronica Latsko. The goal sent Reign FC to the semifinals, where they would defeat San Diego Wave FC 1-0 and go on to compete in the NWSL Championship.

3 – Reign FC has earned three shutouts in the NWSL playoffs across the 11 matches the team has competed in. Hope Solo recorded the first clean sheet in Reign FC playoff history during Seattle’s 3-0 win over the Washington Spirit in 2015 and since then, Claudia Dickey is the only other goalkeeper to record a clean sheet during the playoffs. She kept Angel City FC and San Diego Wave FC off the board in back-to-back postseason matches in 2023.

3 – Seattle has competed in the NWSL Championship three times in club history – 2014, 2015 and 2023. In the lead up to the first two Championship appearances, the Reign’s path included just one playoff match before the final, whereas their 2023 run included two matches. The Reign are one of four teams to appear in the NWSL Championship three or more times.

7 – Seattle has played in seven semifinal matches. They made their first appearance in 2014 and went on to appear in the semifinals again in 2015, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022 and most recently 2023. Of those seven matches, the Reign hosted four and played three on the road.

8 – The Reign have faced off against eight different opponents in the NWSL playoffs. Their most common opponent is the Washington Spirit (3) and FC Kansas City (2). Seattle has also gone head-to-head with Angel City FC, Kansas City Current, NJ/NY Gotham FC, North Carolina Courage, Portland Thorns FC and San Diego Wave FC. Friday’s match against Orlando will be uncharted territory for the Reign.

11 – The Reign have played in 11 playoff matches across seven different campaigns since the NWSL was founded in 2013. Only one NWSL team has appeared in more postseason matches.

12 – Across all playoff matches, the Reign have scored 12 goals, led by club legend Megan Rapinoe (3). Every playoff win has been determined by just one goal, with the exception of the club’s 3-0 win over Washington in 2015.
