Relive the Joy: OL Reign's 2023 Pride Match Presented by Starbucks

Last month, on Saturday, June 10, OL Reign hosted its annual Pride Match Presented by Starbucks. In a day celebrating inclusion, diversity and love, fans enjoyed a fun-filled lineup of activities off the pitch and an exciting 2-1 win on the pitch.

In front of the fourth largest standalone crowd in club history, the Reign got back to their winning ways against the Kansas City Current. Defender Sofia Huerta scored first goal of the season on the penalty kick in the first half and then assisted forward Jordyn Huitema’s second half game-winning goal.

Off the field, the club’s celebration of Pride featured a rally towel giveaway, face painting, photo booths, LGTBQ+ owned food trucks on site and more! The day also featured special performances from Reign City Riot and SpinOut, their Pride Color Guard, as well as a national anthem performance from Mary Lambert, an award-winning singer, songwriter and LGBTQ+ activist.

OL Reign also released Protect Trans Kids t-shirts, with the proceeds supporting Lavender Rights Project, thanks to Starbucks’ generous support.

Supporting the same cause, the team also hosted an auction of player-worn and autographed jerseys from match and player-worn and autographed Protect Trans Kids t-shirts. Lavender Rights Project (LRP) elevates the autonomy power and leadership of Black intersex and Indigenous gender diverse communities through legal and social services across WA. Led by Black trans women and femmes, LRP strives to create a world where their communities are at the forefront of liberation by decolonizing systems of care and support.

In total, the sales and auction have raised over $22,000 for Lavender Rights Project.
