Two OL Reign Players Named to NWSL Best XI of the Month, Presented by Mastercard for May

The National Women’s Soccer League announced today the 11 players named to the Best XI of the Month, presented by Mastercard, for the month of May by the NWSL Media Association and the NWSL’s on-air broadcast talent.

OL Reign has two players selected for the league’s May Best XI of the Month, which is the second most of any team in the league. OL Reign’s selected players – forwards Veronica Latsko and Megan Rapinoe – both contributed heavily to the team’s success in the month of May. Latsko appeared in all six of OL Reign’s May matches, while Rapinoe appeared in five.

Latsko had a three-goal month for the Reign, beginning her scoring on May 6 in OL Reign’s 2-0 win against the Houston Dash. The tenacious forward scored the opening goal of the match in the 53rd minute, marking her first of the 2023 season. Later that match, in the 68th minute, the forward assisted OL Reign’s second goal with a cross to forward Jordyn Huitema. Latsko also recorded her first ever brace in the month of May against Angel City FC. Her goals were 2 minutes and 16 seconds apart, making her the second-fastest player to record a brace for the Reign since Nahomi Kawasumi in 2014 (2:13). Latsko finished the match against Angel City with a career-high six shots. This is Latsko’s first time being named to the NWSL Best XI of the Month.

Rapinoe, one of OL Reign’s original players, notched four assists in the month of May. She earned her first assist of the month against the Houston Dash, on Latsko’s game-winning goal. Rapinoe continued to shine in May, earning her first-ever three-assist performance in OL Reign’s 4-1 win over Angel City. With four assists in May, Rapinoe became OL Reign’s all-time assist leader with 25. This is her eighth time being named to the NWSL Best XI of the Month. She is now tied for the fourth most Team of the Month honors in the NWSL.
