Angharad James-Turner called up to Wales National Team for World Cup qualifying matches
Seattle Reign FC midfielder Angharad James-Turner has been called up to the Welsh Women’s National Team for the nation’s FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying matches this month.
Wales is situated in Group B1 alongside Albania, Czechia and Montenegro, the squad will take on Albania in two back-to-back matches on April 14 and 18. These fixtures provide the team with an opportunity to build on an already strong start to their World Cup qualifying campaign. In the nation’s opening matches, they earned a 2-2 draw against Czechia on the road and a 6-1 win in Llanelli against Montenegro.
Wales currently sits atop group B1, tied on points with Czechia. The Women’s European Qualifiers run from February to December to determine which UEFA teams will earn a spot at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, in addition to determining promotion and relegation ahead of the next edition of the UEFA Women’s Nationals League.
James-Turner, a longtime leader of the Welsh squad, is primed to fuel Cymru to new heights once again. Last international window, her veteran presence was much appreciated in the center of the pitch and this window will be no different. The roster includes four uncapped players as the squad prepares to go head-to-head with Albania for the first time.
The midfielder has had a strong start for the Reign during the 2026 season, showing up for the team in big moments. In addition to adding a sense of calm leadership on the field, she scored the opening goal in Seattle’s 3-0 win over the Kansas City Current.
