By the Numbers: Celebrating the Iconic Career of Lauren Barnes

It goes without saying that Seattle Reign FC’s long-time captain Lauren Barnes has left her mark on the club – both on and off the field. In her 13-year tenure with the club, she has posted impressive stats, in nearly every category. As she prepares for retirement at the end of the 2025 NWSL season, join the club for a night of celebration on Friday, October 17 take a look at everything our captain has achieved, by the numbers:

1 – Since she joined the club ahead of the inaugural NWSL season in 2013, Barnes has played for another NWSL team. She is one of few players to play for one club during her entire career. As of 2025, Barnes and her teammate Jess Fishlock are the only active players to play 13 seasons with the same club.

2 – Barnes has been named to the NWSL Best XI First Team twice, in 2015 and 2016, and Second Team twice in 2014 and 2016. The club’s iconic No.3 was also named NWSL Defender of the Year in 2016. She was the second-ever player to receive the award and the first Reign player to do so.

3 – Barnes has led the Reign to three NWSL Shields (2014, 2015, 2022). She started and played in at least 19 regular-season matches in each of those three seasons.

8 – Barnes has played in more games than eight of the 14 active NWSL teams, including Orlando Pride, North Carolina Courage, Racing Louisville FC, Kansas City Current, Utah Royals FC, Angel City FC, San Diego Wave FC and Bay FC.

91 – The Reign OG has played in an impressive 91% of Reign FC regular season games since the club was founded.

100 – In 2024, Barnes became the first player in NWSL history to reach 100 regular-season wins.

238 – Barnes has made 238 starts in her 250 regular-season appearances, subbing onto the field just 12 times in 13 years.

250 – As of Reign FC’s recent match against Bay FC, Barnes is the only player in NWSL history to reach 250 regular-season matches played. This is one of many league records the defender owns.

20,940 – Another NWSL record Barnes holds is minutes played. She has played 20,940 minutes for the Reign – the equivalent of over 14 days!
