By the Numbers: Reign FC Continues Momentum with Win Over Angel City
Seattle Reign FC made a statement in their return to regular season play on Friday, defeating Angel City FC 2-0 at Lumen Field. The important three points kept the Reign in fifth place in the NWSL standings – just two points behind second place.
Take a closer look at the match, by the numbers:
1 – Forward Mia Fishel, who signed with the club on July 10, made her NWSL debut as a substitute in the 81st minute. She finished the match with one duel won, a tackle and two touches in the box.
2 – Club original Jess Fishlock opened the scoring in the 66th minute, notching her second goal of the season. The Welsh midfielder now has 44 career regular season goals, tying Portland Thorns FC’s Sophia Wilson for 11th-most in NWSL history. She also was an integral part of forcing the Reign’s second goal of night – an own goal from Angel City.
4 – After going unbeaten in three straight road matches during June, Reign FC extended its streak to four with Friday night’s 2-0 win over Angel City FC. The match marked the club’s first regular season home appearance since May 23 and the fourth consecutive regular season match that the team has recorded two or more goals.
6 – Goalkeeper Claudia Dickey tallied a season-high six saves and earned her fourth shutout of the year, setting a new single-season career best. The 25-year-old now has 10 career clean sheets and 123 saves across four NWSL seasons. She ranks fifth in saves across the league and fourth in goals against average.
7 – In the midfield, Sally Menti and Sam Meza both posted a total of seven duels won – tied for the highest of any Reign player in the match. The duo controlled the midfield and accounted for over half of the Reign’s total duels won.
14 – Defender Phoebe McClernon continued her streak, starting in her 14th match this season. She captained the squad as she appeared in her 49th consecutive match for the Reign, and led the team in clearances (5), in addition to adding an interception and tackle.
