Midfielder Jess Fishlock Nominated for Goal of the Week
Seattle Reign FC midfielder Jess Fishlock has been nominated for NWSL Goal of the Week. Following her Player of the Week nomination, the Reign FC OG’s game-winner in the 66th minute of Seattle’s match against Angel City FC on Friday is being recognized for its excellence.
The strike was pure determination and grit, paired with her extraordinary level of soccer intelligence. Defender Sofia Huerta received a pass from midfielder Sally Menti and one-touch crossed it across the box to the head of Fishlock. The Welsh international’s first attempt on goal was blocked, but she was ready to pounce on the follow up, blasting it into the back of the net with her first-time strike. The goal marks her second of the season and first since March.
She’s nominated for Goal of the Week alongside Washington Spirit’s Trinity Rodman, Utah Royals FC’s Mina Tanaka and Portland Thorns FC’s Olivia Moultrie.
