Cassie Miller Highlights Heart Health with Nick of Time Foundation

As announced in May, Reign FC goalkeeper Cassie Miller is the club’s nominee for the 2025 Lauren Holiday Impact Award, presented by Nationwide. She has joined forces with local nonprofit, Nick of Time Foundation, to bring education, awareness and accessible heart screenings and emergency response training to the community.

Miller has made working in the community a top priority in her career, regardless of the team she’s playing for. When she made the move to Seattle ahead of the 2025 season, she knew she wanted to find a heart health organization to work with and immediately clicked with Nick of Time.

“I've always been interested in community work, no matter where I am. I'm just happy and excited to be a leader in the community and showcase who we are and how great of athletes we are,” shared Miller.

Founded nearly 20 years ago, Nick of Time Foundation’s mission is to provide accessible heart screenings and emergency response training for young people. Over the last two decades, the organization has screened more than 32,000 youth, identified 648 individuals with potentially life-threatening heart conditions and trained thousands in hands-only CPR and AED use.

“I think heart health, in general, is something that people look past, so wherever I am and whatever market I'm in, I try to get involved. When I came to Seattle, it was one of the first things I looked into, and I came across Nick of Time. They are absolutely phenomenal.”

The cause is near and dear to Miller, as she has faced the challenges presented by heart-related conditions her entire life. She had open-heart surgery at two months old and an additional surgery in college.

Nick of Time addresses heart health through a unique blend of education and action, transforming community spaces into cardiac screening centers with volunteer medical professionals to provide free evaluations to the community. This year, Miller has appeared at several Nick of Time events, including an opportunity for our Reign Academy players to learn more about heart health and stop by for a screening. She also worked with Nick of Time to take action that same day, putting on an event during a youth soccer tournament, where players and families could participate in CPR training.

“You never know if you have an underlying heart condition. Something that they've actually taught me is the number one leading cause of death in youth athletes on the playing fields is an underlying heart condition. People just don't hear these stats. People just don't know about this stuff,” shared Miller.

Fans can learn more about Nick of Time and learn how to get involved to schedule their own heart screening HERE.

“I think it's really important for our fans to know about Nick of Time and what they do, but at the end of the day, I hope that they know that they can sign up to get their hearts screened. Tell your family and friends and just get your heart screened. It's as easy as signing up.”

“They also teach CPR,” Miller added. “We don’t all have underlying heart conditions, but if you’re out somewhere and someone collapses, knowing how to do CPR is so important. It's just incredible work they do and hopefully we can spread the word.”

Miller and Nick of Time Foundation will be honored at the Reign’s Appreciation Match, on Sunday, September 28 at Lumen Field. In the meantime, fans can VOTE NOW for Miller and Nick of Time in the Fan Impact Challenge.
