Counting Down to Spokane: Reign FC Travels East in One Week

Just seven days stand between Seattle Reign FC and the first-ever NWSL match in Spokane, Washington – and you won’t want to miss what’s to come.

The Reign have already started the NWSL season off with a bang, earning a gutsy 2-1 win over the Orlando Pride, battling through travel delays and weather delays to make it all happen. Nerilia Mondesir notched two assists in the match, with NWSL veterans Jess Fishlock and Brittany Ratcliffe tallying goals.

This team has already given fans so much to be excited about and will soon head over to the east side of Washington State to play three matches at ONE Spokane Stadium in Spokane, Washington.

The Spokane community is renowned for a thriving sports culture of its own, from the youth level to the college level and professional ranks. The entire city stands behind the teams that reside there, from the Chiefs and Indians to the Zephyr and Velocity.

Soon, that same community will welcome NWSL soccer – and the biggest stars in the women’s game – for the first time ever, and with that, three of Reign FC’s fiercest opponents. All three teams, Kansas City Current, Denver Summit FC and Racing Louisville FC, bring something unique to the table that fans should be excited about.

“These are the best players in the world. Some of the best players in our league are coming through Spokane. It’s an opportunity to see these high-level professional athletes at this moment, especially. Hopefully we score a lot of goals, first and foremost,” said Maya Mendoza-Exstrom, Reign FC’s Chief Business Officer.

This set of games means more, as it will blend the Reign FC matchdays that fans know and love, with the passionate energy that the city of Spokane is renowned for.

" We have fan groups that come over all the time to Lumen Field for the women and for the men. To be able to go the other and way bring some of our fans all across the state – but it’s also an opportunity to expand the fanbase,” said Mendoza-Exstrom.

“The really cool thing is as we look to back to Lumen Field for the rest of the year, there will be plenty of opportunities for new fans from Spokane to decide to come across and come to Lumen for one of the big matches in the back half of the year – whether it’s our Pride Match, our Rivalry Match against Portland on July 12th on the World Cup grass on ABC – there’s a summer of soccer here even after the World Cup is done.”

Fans can expect to see family friendly matchday activations in the RAVE Foundation Fan Zone including inflatable tic-tac-toe, soccer target kick, a photobooth to commemorate the occasion, crown making, poster making and more!
