Day in Photos: Mother’s Day with Reign FC
On Sunday, the Reign hosted the Houston Dash in the club’s Mother’s Day Match. Though the Reign fell 1-0, the community was able to come together and celebrate the Queens in their lives. Fans were invited to enjoy Mother’s Day related activations around the stadium, including a bouquet making station. Mother figures were recognized all throughout the match and players’ moms were flown in to make the day extra special.
“It's so nice to have our moms here. I don't get to see mine as much as I'd like, so for the Reign to give us the opportunity to all fly our moms over, it was really special when we heard the news. It's been really nice,” said midfielder Angharad James-Turner.
“You know, we as a group are with each other all the time, but to have all of our moms here at the same game, having the experience too has been really nice for them. I'd like to dedicate the game to all the moms and grandparents who are here. You're all amazing people and we all can't thank you enough for everything that you do,” she added.
Defender Lauren Barnes shared a similar sentiment about the weekend.
“Yeah, I think it's just special moments like this, right? They come to a lot of games, but they've got to do a lot of in-game, on-field stuff. My mom and Lynn [Biyendolo]’s mom were on a panel today, so just like being able to be part of it is a little bit different and I think that made it really special.”
“We were driving to the game, my mom's like, ‘I'm a little nervous for the panel’ and I'm like, ‘I'm a little nervous for the game.’ Like we're good. Just being able to share that experience was really special today. Honestly, like for me, I get to meet other mothers as well. Like, it's super special. I think I really invest in people on this team, to be able to also see their moms and have that connection really just makes a difference. It's pretty cool.
