One of the NWSL’s premier young defenders commits her future to Seattle through the 2030 season; At 20 years old, Bugg has already earned NWSL Best XI Second Team honors and six USWNT caps, with finalist honors for NWSL Defender of the Year and U.S. Soccer Young Female Player of the Year in 2025
Seattle Reign FC today announced that defender Jordyn Bugg has signed a multi-year contract extension to remain with the club through the 2030 NWSL season, securing one of the league’s premier young defenders as a foundational piece of the club’s future. Bugg, 20, initially signed with Reign FC in July 2024 as one of the youngest signings in club history and has quickly established herself among the league’s top defenders while emerging as a member of the U.S. Women’s National Team player pool.
At just 19 years old during her first full professional season in 2025, Bugg became the youngest finalist for NWSL Defender of the Year in league history and the youngest player selected to the NWSL Best XI First or Second Team that season, earning Second Team honors. She was also named a finalist for U.S. Soccer’s Young Female Player of the Year for the second consecutive year and voted Reign FC Defender of the Year by her teammates.
“Jordyn represents so much of what we believe in and where we want this club to go,” said Seattle Reign FC General Manager Lesle Gallimore. “She has already established herself as one of the top young defenders in our league, and her maturity, competitiveness and commitment to getting better every day give us tremendous belief in what she can become. Jordyn has the ability and ambition to compete at the highest levels of the game, and we’re incredibly proud that she has chosen Seattle as the place to continue that journey.
Bugg signed her first NWSL contract with Seattle in July 2024 ahead of the NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup and quickly established herself as a regular in the Reign backline. Across three seasons, the defender has made 49 regular season appearances, including 46 starts, while logging more than 4,000 minutes. The extension comes on the eve of what could be Bugg’s 50th regular season appearance for Reign FC.
In her third season with the Reign, Bugg has continued to build on her breakout 2025 campaign. The California native has started 17 of 18 matches played this season, contributing to seven of the team’s 10 clean sheets while recording one goal, 95 clearances and 71 duels won across 1,529 minutes.
“Jordyn’s understanding of the game, composure and ability to defend at a high level are exceptional, especially at this stage of her career,” said Seattle Reign FC Head Coach Laura Harvey. “She’s already accomplished so much, but what’s most exciting is knowing there’s still another level she can reach. We’re really excited to continue pushing her and supporting her development here in Seattle.”
Bugg has scored four goals in her NWSL career, including her first professional goal, a long-range game-winner against the North Carolina Courage in March 2025 that was shortlisted for the FIFA Marta Award recognizing the most exceptional goals scored in women’s soccer worldwide. During her impressive 2025 season, Bugg earned NWSL Best XI of the Month honors twice before closing the year with NWSL Best XI Second Team honors and recognition as a finalist for NWSL Defender of the Year.
“Seattle gave me an opportunity to become a professional at such a young age, and I’m really grateful for the trust this club has put in me from the beginning,” said Bugg. “I’ve already grown so much here as a player and as a person, but I also feel like I’m just getting started. I want to continue pushing myself and competing at the highest level, and I believe Seattle is a place where I can continue to do that. The support from our fans and the community has been incredible, and I’m really excited for what’s ahead with this club.”
Bugg’s rapid development in Seattle has also translated to the international stage. After receiving her first senior U.S. Women’s National Team call-up in June 2025, Bugg made her debut later that month and has earned six caps, including five starts. She was named to the USWNT roster for the 2026 SheBelieves Cup and most recently earned selection to the U.S. U-23 Women’s National Team for its October training camp.
Bugg also brings extensive experience throughout the U.S. youth national team pathway, representing the United States at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, the 2023 Pan American Games with the U.S. U-19 Women’s National Team and the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
