Huerta Wins Assist of the Week
Seattle Reign FC defender Sofia Huerta won NWSL Assist of the Week for her assist on forward Jordyn Huitema’s game-tying goal against the Houston Dash in Week 17 of the NWSL regular season.
The assist helped to secure a point on the road in Seattle’s quest to make the playoffs, and also marked an individual milestone for Huerta, who now leads the league in assists with 32. Huerta has assisted 18 different players against 14 total NWSL clubs and 17 of her 32 assists were on game-winning goals.
On Sunday, the 32-year-old settled a pass at her feet before pinpointing Huitema’s run in the box and lofting a ball to her head. The Canadian forward soundly connected with the cross, heading it past Jane Campbell in goal to level the score.
Since returning from loan in August, Huerta has made four appearances, playing all 360 minutes in the Reign’s backline. She has an 88% passing accuracy, three tackles and three interceptions, in addition to two shots and her assist.
