Seattle Reign FC returns home to Lumen Field this Sunday, August 9 in the club’s second-ever RISE Together Match, taking on Angel City FC at 6:00 p.m. PT. After winning three of the last four matches, the Reign will look to continue their goalscoring ways against their west coast foe.

1. LAST MEETING – The Reign and Angel City FC met most recently in August of last season at Lumen Field, with the Reign picking up a 2-0 win. Veteran midfielder Jess Fishlock scored the opening goal of the match in the 66th minute, in addition to forcing an Angel City FC own goal to double the Reign’s lead and secure three points in the club’s annual Pride Match. The match also marked Mia Fishel’s NWSL debut.
The upcoming fixture will be the 14th all-time meeting between Seattle and Angel City. The Reign have nine wins, three losses and one draw, with 23 goals scored compared to Angel City’s 12.
2. SCOUTING ANGEL CITY – Currently tied with the Reign on points, Angel City FC sits in eighth place in the NWSL standings – one position above the Reign. Most recently, the team took on the Kansas City Current and drew 1-1.
Angel City scored first in the match, just 14 minutes into the action. Carina Lageyre played a defense-splitting ball to Taylor Suarez, who made a run into the box and slotted the ball into the back of the net with her low shot. However, just 12 minutes later, the Current answered back, levelling the score on a volley in the box. The rest of the match went scoreless and the two teams split the points.
3. CONSISTENT GROWTH – After coming back from the summer break, Reign FC has constantly worked to improve match over match, addressing each challenge as it comes up. The team has been consistently scoring goals at the fastest pace of the season, highlighted by Maddie Mercado adding three goals in the last four matches and Mia Fishel scoring her first two NWSL goals.
Last match, the Reign demonstrated their trademark grit and growth mindset as they worked to overcome Bay FC’s comeback. After initially scoring two goals to take an early lead over Bay, the home side was prepared to respond, adding two goals of their own. Rather than sitting back and taking a point from the match, the Reign continued to fight for the win and ultimately found it, as Fishlock subbed onto the pitch in the 84th minute netted the game-winner in the 85th minute.
4. PLAYERS TO WATCH – Reign FC forward Maddie Dahlien had a standout match last weekend and will be looking to continue the momentum against Angel City. She had two goal contributions, first setting up Mia Fishel’s goal before finding one of her own, marking both her second goal and assist of the season.
Mia Fishel also continues to be productive on the front line, on and off of the scoresheet. Though she’s played a critical role in the Reign’s offense all season, she recently broke through onto the scoreboard for the first time in her NWSL career. Her first goal came from the penalty spot before scoring from the run of play last weekend.
For Angel City, Gisele Thompson has been a stalwart in the lineup, playing 16 of 16 matches. Solid both offensively and defensively, she has added three goals and one assist.
Though she was on the bench in Angel City’s last match, Maiara Niehues will be looking to make her return to the field after being listed as questionable on last week’s availability report. She tied for the most goals scored for Angel City this season and poses a large challenge for opposing teams when she gets inside the box.
