Match Forecast: Reign FC Takes on Chicago Stars FC in the Club’s Annual Pride Match
Seattle Reign FC hosts the club’s annual Pride Match, presented by Trupanion, this Friday, August 14 at Lumen Field. Under the Friday Night Lights, the Reign will look to continue the momentum they’ve established since returning from the summer break, while simultaneously celebrating Pride all night long.

1. LAST MEETING – The Reign and Chicago last met at Lumen Field in August 2025, in an infamous six-goal game that ended 3-3. The match got off to a dream start for the Reign, as Jess Fishlock gave the team the lead in front of a home crowd just three minutes into the match. In the 34th minute, the Reign doubled their lead and then began the second half with the same energy, adding a goal straight from kickoff. However, against the odds, Chicago mounted a comeback in the 73rd minute, scoring three goals before the end of the match to pull level and split the points.
The upcoming match will be the 34th all-time meeting between Seattle and Chicago. The Reign have recorded 11 wins, 12 losses and 10 draws.
2. SCOUTING CHICAGO STARS FC – Currently, Chicago sits 16th position in the NWSL standings with four wins, 13 losses and one draw in 2026. The team most recently took on Bay FC and battled to a scoreless draw – their first of the season. They secured their last win on July 5, immediately out of the summer break. In that match, the Stars netted three goals en route to a 3-2 victory over the Utah Royals.
Notably, Chicago announced that the club has parted ways with Head Coach Martin Sjögren and Assistant Coach Anders Jacobson on Wednesday, appointing Karina Báez to serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the 2026 NWSL season.
3. OFFENSIVE THREAT – After struggling to score goals in the first half of the season, the Reign have been on a roll since returning from the summer break. The club’s most recent outing, a 2-2 draw, marked the Reign’s fifth straight-multi goal game and eight straight match in which they’ve scored at least once. Though the team is continuing to push for more, momentum certainly is in their favor.
Uniquely, the goalscoring power has been distributed throughout the entire squad, as opposed to being concentrated to just a few players. Most recently, forward Mia Fishel scored her third goal of the season and midfielder Sally Menti added her second. In total, 11 different Reign players have added a goal this season and six of those players have scored more than one goal in 2026.
4. PLAYERS TO WATCH – Reign FC forward Mia Fishel continues her goalscoring tear, adding another goal on Sunday against Angel City FC. Showcasing her versatility, this goal was a powerful and accurate shot from the top of the 18-yard box. She is now the team’s second-leading scorer and added her first assist of the season on Sunday.
In the midfield, Sam Meza continues to be a stalwart for Seattle, racking up quality performances week after week. In Reign FC’s last match, she led the team in tackles won (3), in addition to adding two clearances and an interception.
For Chicago, Sam Staab is the only player to appear in all 18 matches for the club this season. Over the weekend, she made her 150th NWSL regular season appearance. The 29-year-old defender has added one goal this season.
Nádia Gomes has also been a standout player for Chicago, winning nine duels in their recent 0-0 draw and in the match before that, recording her second goal of the season.
