Key Info Ahead of the Match:
1. LAST MEETING – During the 2025 NWSL season, the Reign and Current met two times, earning a win apiece. Most recently, the Reign traveled to CPKC Stadium and fell 2-0, conceding goals to Debinha and Temwa Chawinga. However, when the Reign hosted the Current in Seattle, Lynn Biyendolo’s lone goal boosted Seattle to a 1-0 win.
All-time, the Reign have six wins, six losses and one draw against the Current and have scored 13 goals in the head-to-head series. Defender Sofia Huerta leads the series in assists, with three.
2. SCOUTING KANSAS CITY – The Kansas City Current had a dominant 2025 season, earning 65 points from 26 matches to claim the NWSL Shield. The team faced just three losses the entire regular-season, including one from the Reign, but crashed out of the playoffs in the quarterfinals.
Two matches into the 2026 NWSL season, the team has earned one win and one loss. Most recently, the team dropped three points to Chicago Stars FC in a 2-1 defeat in Evanston, Illinois. The Stars scored back-to-back goals on either side of halftime, first getting on the board in 42nd minute, courtesy of Tessa Dellarose. The home side doubled their lead in the 50th minute, on a header from former Reign FC player Jordyn Huitema.
The Current stayed in the game though, reducing Chicago’s lead in the 57th minute on a Haley Hopkins goal. The build up to the goal displayed just how threatening the Current can be, as Croix Bethune used her pace to kickstart the attack from Current’s own half of the field, before playing a ball that cut through the heart of Chicago’s defense to find Ally Sentnor. Bethune received the ball back, this time distributing a curling pass to Izzy Rodriguez. She played a one-time ball across the penalty area for Hopkins, who made no mistakes as she found the back of the net.
3. HOME AWAY FROM HOME – Reign FC’s 2026 season continues to feature a busy schedule, which means that every player will be called upon to help the team succeed. So far this season, 18 Reign players have seen minutes on the pitch, highlighting the depth of the squad just two matches into the season.
This match against Kansas City marks the Reign’s first-ever fixture on the east side of Washington State as Spokane becomes their home away from home while Lumen Field undergoes preparations for the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup. The team will be looking to fans to help them make ONE Spokane Stadium feel like a fortress as they take up residency in the city for three matches.
4. PLAYERS TO WATCH – For the Reign, Claudia Dickey currently ranks fourth in the NWSL in saves, which may prove to be crucial against Kansas City. While she’s still looking to record her first clean sheet of the season, she’s well-prepared to go up against a fierce Kansas City attack that took 10 shots against Chicago over the weekend.
The relatively young Reign team will also be looking to the veteran leaders of the roster, like Jess Fishlock, Sofia Huerta and Brittany Ratcliffe, during this busy stretch for their guidance and expertise in navigating the strain of three matches in just over a week.
For Kansas City, Croix Bethune and Ally Sentnor have been difficult for opponents to handle. Each player has recorded one goal this season – both in the Current’s opening match of the year against the Utah Royals. The duo has registered a combined seven shots this season and show no signs of slowing down.
