Key Info Ahead of the Match:

1. LAST MEETING – The Reign and Current met earlier this season at ONE Spokane Stadium, where the Reign downed the visitors 3-0 in a decisive victory. Angharad James-Turner scored the first goal of the match with a powerful far post volley and it took less than 10 minutes for Seattle to double that lead as Sofia Huerta looped a cross to the back post for Brittany Ratcliffe to finish.

The 33rd minute brought the final goal of the match – Maddie Mercado’s first of the season. A warning sign of what the forward would achieve this season, she got onto the end of another cross from Huerta and headed the ball into the back of the net.

Seattle and Kansas City have met 14 times across all competitions since the Current joined the NWSL, resulting in seven wins, six losses and one draw.

2. SCOUTING KANSAS CITY – The Current are just above the Reign in the NWSL standings, with three more points, but the Reign has one game in hand.

Like the Reign, the Current most recently fell 2-1 in a match against Gotham FC. However, the team got off to quick start as Amelia White etched her name in NWSL history books, tying the record for the fastest goal in regular season history with her 22nd second strike, assisted by midfielder Croix Bethune. After the goal, Gotham scored twice, both in the first half and both unanswered to take three points from the Current.

3. BUSY STRETCH & ROSTER DEPTH – This fixture marks the Reign’s third match in nine days, two of which required the team to travel across the country. During this busy stretch of the schedule, the Reign will be relying on the depth of their roster to find success on the pitch.

As noted ahead of Wednesday’s match, 15 of Seattle’s 23 active rostered players have recorded at least one goal contribution this season, emphasizing the quality of the roster from top to bottom. In addition, every active field player has seen the pitch so far in 2026, from newcomers to league veterans.

4. PLAYERS TO WATCH – Reign FC forward Maddie Mercado can’t be stopped in 2026. After scoring her first goal of the season against the Current in Spokane, she has added six more goals and leads the Reign with seven total goals scored.

In addition, Sofia Huerta, one of Reign FC’s captains, has a strong track record against Kansas City, leading the head-to-head series with five total assists, two of which were recorded in the Reign’s last meeting with Kansas.

For the Current, Croix Bethune has been a top contributor this season, playing the second-most minutes of any Current player and in that time, adding three goals and nine assists. Another mainstay, Izzy Rodriguez, led Kansas in interceptions and clearances against Gotham as she played her 46th consecutive regular season match for the club.
