Midfielder Sam Meza Nominated for Assist of the Week
Seattle Reign FC midfielder Sam Meza has been nominated for the NWSL’s Deloitte Assist of the Week for Week 9 of the regular season. Meza earned the nomination thanks to her game-winning assist on Saturday against Racing Louisville FC. Her connection with forward Maddie Dahlien in the 39th minute sealed the deal for the Reign to bring all three points home to Seattle.
The game-defining play began with the second-year midfielder earning possession of the ball from Louisville near midfield and quickly beginning an attack for the Reign, against the run of play. She took a couple touches forward before releasing a perfectly threaded ball to a running Dahlien.
It was an easy finish for the forward, who carried the ball into the box before slotting it to the back post to take the lead for the Reign.
Saturday’s match marked Meza’s ninth appearance of the season. After earning a spot in the starting lineup on March 30, she has become a stalwart in the midfield. She has two assists on the season and ranks third in the league in tackles.
Meza is nominated for Assist of the Week alongside Portland’s Sam Coffey, Washington’s Tara McKeown and North Carolina’s Denise O’Sullivan.
