Reign FC set to honor Jess Fishlock at second-ever Queen’s Match
Some players change the game. The great ones build a legacy that outlasts it.
Seattle Reign FC is set to host the second-ever Queen’s Match on Friday, October 2, against North Carolina Courage FC. Established in 2025, this marquee celebration of soccer history honors the rich legacy of this city and spotlights the women that left an indelible mark on the game.
Last season, the club honored the 1985 United States Women’s National Team. The group of 17 women quietly built the groundwork for the women’s game to thrive in Seattle, in America and in the world. They not only provided a sturdy foundation upon which the women’s game could grow, but they launched our region to the forefront of these developments.
Fast forward nearly 30 years and that grittiness and heart that led the 85ers forward is still going strong in this city, carried on by those who came after them. At the 2026 match, the club will honor the unparalleled legacy of Jess Fishlock.
Since joining the Reign during the NWSL’s inaugural season in 2013, Fishlock has become synonymous with Seattle. She is forever tied to the growth and success of one the most successful institutions of women’s soccer in North America. And with four goals this season – including a brace in the team’s 2-0 win over Boston Legacy last weekend – Fishlock continues to make history in the city she now calls home.
As the first-ever women’s national team to compete in international competition, the 85ers blazed a trail for future generations to follow. It’s fitting that in the second annual Queen’s Match, the club is celebrating the legacy of a player who has carried that mantle by helping grow the NWSL into the preeminent women’s soccer league in the world.
This match will celebrate the lasting impact she has had on the club ahead of her final regular season home match at Lumen Field on Sunday, November 1 against the Orlando Pride.
At the Queen’s Match, fans will have the chance to share more about the impact Fishlock has made on them through an interactive fan experience on the concourse. The first 6,000 fans in attendance will get an exclusive Jess Fishlock collectible pin, presented by Starbucks when entering the gates of Lumen Field. Five fans will receive a golden pin and will have an opportunity to go on the pitch post-match to meet Fishlock.
Fishlock forged an admirable path throughout her 14-year NWSL career, solidifying her spot as an all-time great. She has well over 200 appearances and a lengthy stat sheet to pair, which includes three NWSL Shields and the most goal contributions of any Reign FC player, in addition to seven NWSL Best XI honors and an NWSL MVP title.
You simply can’t tell the story of the NWSL and Seattle Reign FC without Jess Fishlock.
The midfielder also boasts a historic international football career, with the most caps (166) and goals (48) of any Welsh player in the women's and men's programs.
Her accolades on the field speak for themself, but it’s arguably her leadership that has elevated her game to the next level. Regarded by her peers as a mentor, leader and “player-coach”, her soccer IQ and ability to lead any squad is next to none.
This match also kicks off an exciting Women in Sports Month in Seattle, marking the start of the annual citywide celebration dedicated to recognizing the work shaping the future of women's sports in Seattle.
