Seattle Reign FC midfielder Angharad James-Turner has been nominated for NWSL Goal of the Week for her stunning strike against the Kansas City Current on Wednesday.
The Welsh international got the scoring started in Spokane as Reign FC took on the defending NWSL Shield winners, Kansas City Current. In her first start of the season, she took just 18 minutes to get on the scoresheet.
The attacking sequence started when Sofia Huerta stepped up to take a free kick and nearly found the net, but her shot was ultimately deflected out of bounds for a Reign corner kick. Emeri Adames served the set piece into the 18-yard box where James-Turner freed herself from defenders and drove a powerful volley off Lorena’s fingers and into the back of the net.
“I thought she was great. I actually thought Haz was brilliant when she came on in Orlando as well. Her leadership, her understanding and obviously a great, great goal to top it off. I thought she led the midfield really well.”
The goal marked her first since the 2024 season and the third of her NWSL career.
She’s nominated for Goal of the Week alongside San Diego’s Mel Barcenas, Angel City’s Sveindís Jónsdóttir and Orlando’s Jacquie Ovalle.
