Seattle Reign FC Midfielder Sam Meza Signs Multi-Year Contract Extension

The second-year midfielder and 17th overall pick in the 2024 NWSL Draft signs a three-year deal to remain with Reign FC through 2028

Seattle Reign FC today announced that midfielder Sam Meza has signed a three-year contract extension, keeping her with the club through the 2028 NWSL season.

“Sam’s growth this past year has been nothing short of inspiring,” said Seattle Reign FC General Manager Lesle Gallimore. “Since her loan to Dallas Trinity in the USL during the second half of 2024, she has truly taken the reins of her career. Sam is focused, driven and maturing into the best version of herself – on the field, in the locker room and as a person. Her commitment to continuous improvement is exactly why we’re excited to invest in her future. We believe she is only scratching the surface of what promises to be an elite and long career in this game.”

Meza made her Reign debut during the 2024 NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup before going on loan to Dallas Trinity FC of the USL Super League for the second half of her rookie campaign. She returned to Reign FC in 2025 and has since made an immediate impact, appearing in all 13 matches this season, including nine starts. She is one of just six Reign players to feature in every game so far this year.

At the midpoint of the 2025 campaign, the 23-year-old leads the team with two assists, 47 tackles and 29 tackles won. Her 47 tackles and 29 tackles won rank third and fourth in the league, respectively.

“I’ve learned so much since entering the professional environment, and I’m incredibly excited to continue building my career here in Seattle,” said Meza. “The culture, the people and the standards at this club push me every day to be my best. I’m proud to be part of this team and can’t wait to keep growing with the Reign.”

While on loan with Dallas in 2024, Meza scored two goals in 13 appearances and earned Player of the Month honors in November, having played all 360 minutes that month and helping the team to an undefeated 3-0-1 record.

A native of Dallas, Meza was Seattle’s top selection in the 2024 NWSL Draft, taken 17th overall out of the University of North Carolina. As a Tar Heel, she started 71 of 72 career matches, notching seven goals, 10 assists and earning All-ACC honors in three seasons, including First Team in 2022 and Second Team selections in 2021 and 2023.

Internationally, Meza received her first senior U.S. Women’s National Team call-up last week and made her debut with the team yesterday, earning her first cap. She previously represented the United States at various youth levels since 2015, including the U-23s earlier this year. She was part of the U.S. squads that won the 2020 Concacaf U-20 Championship and the 2018 Concacaf U-17 Championship.
