Veronica Latsko Set to Retire at the Conclusion of the 2025 Season

Reign FC forward Veronica Latsko is set to retire following the conclusion of the 2025 NWSL season, the Reign FC announced today. The club will celebrate her inspiring career at the match this weekend on Sunday, September 14, at Lumen Field.

The versatile forward began her NWSL career with the Houston Dash after being selected 28th overall in the 2018 NWSL draft. She quickly became a valuable player in Houston’s lineup. She featured in all seven matches in Houston’s run to the 2020 Challenge Cup title, bringing the club its first piece of hardware.

The next chapter of her career began in 2022 when Latsko was traded to the Reign. She  went on to play in 61 regular season matches with the club, including 30 starts, and delivered countless unforgettable, defining moments in the club’s history. She was an integral part of the squad that secured the 2022 NWSL Shield at Lumen Field and went on a legendary playoff run in 2023.

“From the moment I was traded to Seattle, I was fully embraced by the players and coaching staff, and it immediately felt like a family. Regardless of how you were performing on the field, you consistently had that family feel. They were there for you through the highs and the lows. To have everyone in Seattle in my corner and feel that constant support... that’s why this has become such a home to me and is the place I want to stay in the next part of my career,” said Latsko.

A fan favorite, the attacker is known for her ability to change matches and seemingly never-ending engine on the pitch. She added a total of 15 regular season goals throughout her career, in addition to seven assists.

But above all else, Latsko embodied the relentless grit and limitless determination that have defined Reign FC since its inception.

“I’ve never been one to be some technical, speedy player. I’ve always just known that one of the things you can control is your attitude and your effort. Regardless of if you can pass the ball five yards, you can work hard. You can work hard every single time you step on that field, and that’s really what I tried to embody throughout my career – to be that player that will do whatever the team needs, for however long they need. Five minutes or ninety minutes, I’ll be there.”

Latsko has been at the forefront of some of the club’s most iconic moments in recent memory. She scored two playoff goals, both game-winning goals in the 2023 NWSL quarterfinal and semifinal, propelling the Reign to the NWSL Championship match.

“For me, the 2023 season was incredible. Just being a part of that incredible Reign squad is such a treasured memory. The playoffs in 2023 were unforgettable – Getting to go down to San Diego, beating San Diego and watching Harvs jump into the pool after that game because that was the bet she had to fulfill. That was probably one of the biggest highlights of my career. That three-week period of 2023 was just awesome.”

From the second Latsko stepped foot in Seattle, she became an important part of the community. A mainstay in the lineup, she has always been a positive influence off the field as well.

“I’m so grateful for how Seattle embraced me, both as a person and as a player. Taking up my initiatives off the field with Agape has made me feel so special and supported. Of course, I’ll miss those Friday night lights at Lumen, and nothing is going to compare to hearing the “Let’s go Latsko” cheer after you score a goal. The fans here are a massive part of my career and I will never forget them.”

As she looks forward to beginning the next chapter of her career, Latsko will make the jump to the legal world, beginning with law school right here in Seattle. Policy and advocacy are not new to the 29-year-old, who has been actively involved with both her entire career.

“I know that when I leave this game, I don't want to say goodbye to it. I want to come back to it, and I want to come back as an advocate to make sure that it's still growing in the same trajectory, with the players at the forefront of that,” Latsko shared.

A fierce supporter of student athlete welfare in college turned Players Association representative in the NWSL, Latsko is eager to take on this next challenge – and plans to bring her love for soccer along with her.

She has always known that she wanted to go into law, and the last few years of her career helped her to focus in on her “why.” It all stems from the connections she has made along the way, from the players and teammates that have overcome adversity in this league, to the legal teams that have been helping them to tackle these challenges head on.

“I’m most looking forward to figuring out how to incorporate the law with my background in soccer and finding a place in the legal world where I’m able to use my connections in the soccer world to make this atmosphere better for players going forward,” shared Latsko. “It’s going to continue to expand and when things grow, it’s easy for people or things to get left behind and forgotten about. I want to make sure that the players and their welfare is at the forefront during this growth period.”

Though her time on the field may soon be coming to an end, Latsko’s career is just getting started and she plans to bring her biggest supporters along, every step of the way.

“The best part of my career was the people I met along the way. From the players I played with in Houston, to my best friends in Seattle, to the fans, that is by far the best part. I’ll always consider those people forever friends and I’ll always be here. I’m not going anywhere.”
